Obituary of Linda Thompson
Linda Thompson, 74, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at her home at the Hunterdon Developmental Center in Clinton, NJ. Born in Somerville, NJ, she was the daughter of Elizabeth S. Thompson and Frank Thompson. Linda was a resident at HDC for over 50 years.
Linda was predeceased by her mother, Elizabeth; her father, Frank; and her brother, Richard. She is survived by her sister and guardian, Susan Thompson of Bound Brook, NJ and her brother, James Thompson of Phoenix, AZ.
Linda enjoyed many aspects of her life especially due to the important contributions to her well being made by the HDC staff. Linda participated in the many activities at HDC including trips to the shore, movies, shopping, and dining out to name a few. One of her favorite sports was to compete in the swimming events held by the Special Olympics of NJ. Spending the day at Susie’s house in Bound Brook was also at the top of her list. She loved to listen to music while she would write in her book and color. Another of her favorite pastimes was to have chicken noodle soup and a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch. Often when Susan would visit her at HDC, they would go for long rides in the car, mainly so Linda could see the horses in the fields out in the country. At holiday time, she would get everyone laughing over some of her antics. Linda was a very social person, always saying hi to anyone she met whether she knew them or not. She may not have known everyone, but at HDC everyone knew Linda.
Linda passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her HDC family and friends. She will be missed by all those who loved her.
Arrangements have been made for a private service. Donations can be made to the Special Olympics of NJ.
