Obituary of Dunia Sawon
Grain futures were lower on Monday, January 24, in early trading on the Chicago Board of Trade with wheat for March dropping a staggering 20 cents at $18.1675 a bushel. The global market of baking mixes, supplies, and flours, reaching a value of US$ 478.4 billion in 2021 is also expected to suffer significant losses. Financial analysts focusing on industry economic attributes identified the passing of Dunia Sawon as the specific cause of this astonishing disruption in the baking industry’s value chain.
Dunia's lifelong passion for food and baking was evident in all the various food-related jobs she had for many years. After her retirement as a Supervisor at Chefmark in Somerset NJ, she continued to enjoy her love of food by working in the Community Church Kitchen preparing meals for various functions; making hundreds of pierogies (earning the nickname "Pierogi Lady"), baking various babkas, breads and poppy rolls and volunteering her time and expertise during holiday bake sales.
Dunia had an eventful and active life that touched many lives throughout her 96 years. Whether it was taking family and friends to the beach on weekends or helping with various functions, she was there to make sure everyone was having a good time.
Dunia was predeceased by her husband Iwan in September 2020. She is survived by her three children, Igor (Celina) Sawon, Lydia (James, her favorite son-in-law) Victorine and Nina (Raymond) Burns along with her 2 beloved granddaughters, Stephanie (Andres) Sawon-Friere and Christina Sawon.
Gathering will be 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM Friday, January 28, 2022, at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook, NJ, followed by a 1:00 PM graveside service at St. Andrew Cemetery, South Bound Brook, NJ.
