Katherine Szymonowicz


Dr. Katherine Zuzack Szymonowicz

     After a valiant four-year battle with cancer, Katherine Zuzack Szymonowicz, age 37, passed away on January 27, 2019 in Flemington, NJ.  Katie was born in Latrobe, PA on April 21, 1981 and raised in Indiana, PA the daughter of William and Christine (Pavlik) Zuzack, currently from Mechanicsburg, PA, and sister of Michael and Zachary.

      She graduated from Indiana Area High School in 1999 where she was active in school activities and sports.  Katie was admitted to the Honors College at the University of Delaware from which she graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science Degree.  She was a proud member of the women’s rugby team at UDel.  After four additional years at Rutgers University, Katie earned a Pharm.D degree in 2007 and was employed as a pharmacist by Stop and Shop Supermarket.

      The beloved wife of Jerry Szymonowicz, Jr. and mother of Grace and Samantha, Katie was devoted to her family who were the greatest joy of her life.  Nothing was more important to Katie than spending time with her girls.  Katie will always be remembered for her bright smile, keen sense of humor, kindness to all, and love of family and friends.  She was an avid sports fan and proudly cheered for the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Katie was such a bright light to us all!

     Family members include in-laws Jerry, Sr and Mary Ann Szymonowicz, Mike and Jessica Szymonowicz, and Mary (Szymonowicz), Jamison Panko, and their children Harrison and Marianne. Other family members include numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and cousin Jackie Pavlik Bonkoski who was like a sister to Katie.  Special friends include from UDel:  Coaster, Mandy, Tonia, Courtney, Katie, Jess, Mana, Kelby, and Jodie; from Indiana, PA: Kara, Melia, and Katie, and from NJ: Ward, Allison, Meryam, and Veena.

      The Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook, NJ is handling the arrangements with a viewing from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 31.  On Friday, February 1, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am at St. Francis Cabrini Church, 200 Bound Brook Ave., Piscataway, NJ.  Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
