Wilbur Park

Wilbur J. Park, 98, World War II Veteran Wilbur Joseph Park, age 98, formerly from Middlesex, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2017, in Alpharetta, Georgia. He was born in Bound Brook, to the late William Joseph and Margaret Darcy Park. Wilbur was a 1937 graduate of Saint Peter's High School, New Brunswick, and served in the United States Army as a supply sergeant for General George S. Patton, Jr.'s Third Army during World War II. While stationed in England, he met and married, Mary Ellis Binnie of Pill, England. They were married on June 30, 1944, in Chippenham, England, six days before his unit left for France. While serving with the Tenth Armored Infantry of the Fourth Armored Division, he earned several combat ribbons and the Bronze Star Medal for service around the Metz area of France. He worked at Research Cottrell, Finderne, while earning a degree in Accounting at Rutgers University. He later worked at Coated Products, Middlesex, and in the accounting department of St. Mary's Hospital, Hoboken, retiring in 1984. In 2009, Wilbur moved to Hopkinton, Massachusetts, and in 2014, moved to Alpharetta, Georgia, to be near his youngest son and family. Wilbur was predeceased by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Mary Binnie Park; sister Mary Lillian Park Gallo, and daughter, Margaret Alethea Park. Surviving are daughter Terry Park (Frank) Coman, Charlotte, North Carolina; son David Binnie (Connie) Park, Hillsborough; son Craig Andrew (Kristen) Park, Milton, Georgia; six grandchildren Christine Coman Lockett, Ryan Coman, Imogen Binnie, Eric, Andrew, and Evan Park, and his beloved five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, October 13. A celebration Mass of Wilbur's life will be at Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Roman Catholic Church, Middlesex, 9:30 A.M. Saturday, October 14. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to supporting our great veterans and their families through the Fisher House Foundation.
