Walter Nieroda

Walter Nieroda, 89, died Monday, September 29, 2014, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Somerset. Born in Poland, Walter was the son of Roman and Agnieszka Nieroda. It was at the start of World War II that Walter, age 14, volunteered and was accepted into the Polish Forces, which fell under the command of the British. He served from 1942 - 1949 in the Middle East, United Kingdom, and Northwest Europe. He took part in the D-Day operations, landing on Juno Beach, faithfully serving throughout France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. After the war, he came to America, eventually settling in Bound Brook. He was a supervisor at Malden Mills in Middlesex for over 20 years and was part owner of the River View Lounge, Bridgewater. He was a member of the Polish Army Veterans Association, Post 57. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Bound Brook. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Loretta, in 2007; his grandchildren, James and Lidia Wenz, his brother, Mitchell, and his sons-in-law, Richard and Jerry. He leaves behind his son, Ralph DeBaro and his wife, Debra, of Middlesex; his daughters, Loretta Alderman of Flanders, Madeline Wenz and her husband, Fred, of Branchburg, Rosalie D’Angella of Bound Brook; his sister, Irene Romanowski; and his beloved grandchildren, Lisa Serridge, Hollie and Kim DeBaro, and Travis and Shane Alderman; his great grand children, Ashley, Brett and Madeline Serridge; James and Adrianna Wenz, as well as many nieces and nephews.  Visiting will be 10:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Monday, October 6, at the funeral home, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 P.M.. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge.
