Walter D. Moskal

May 31, 1959 — April 3, 2025

Walter D. Moskal, 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 3, 2025 at Hunterdon Medical Center. Born on May 31, 1959 in Somerville, he lived his entire life in South Bound Brook. He was a graduate of Bound Brook High School and worked for many years in retail with the final years of his career spent at Lowe’s in Hillsborough.  Affectionately called ‘Uncle Wally’ by family and friends, he was known for his friendliness and kindness to all.

Family was most important to him and spending time with them brought him immense joy. Taking day trips with his family was one of his favorite ways to spend his free time. Wally’s fun-loving spirit and presence could light up a room, and he was the source of many hijinks for his 13 nieces and nephews. From ‘cousins sleepovers,’ to holiday parties, he had a passion for bringing people together.

Whether it was celebrating an accomplishment, milestone, or helping with yard work or house projects, family could always count on Wally to show up with a smile.  He adored animals and was a loving owner of several cats and dogs over the years. Wally enjoyed music and had a sizable music collection, spanning from Donny and Marie to Josh Groban, and from disco to country. A car enthusiast, Wally owned a number of cars in his lifetime, ranging from a 1978 Honda Accord to a 1986 Camaro IROC-Z.  He also had an affinity for lighthouses, with many collectibles displayed proudly throughout his home.  Wally will be dearly missed by many as his gentle soul touched countless lives.

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, John and Mary Moskal of South Bound Brook.  He is survived by his siblings: Ksenka Tuck of South Bound Brook; Marilyn Wielgosz and her husband Walter of Somerset; Denise Fitzmaurice and her husband Leonard of South Windsor, CT; Michael Moskal and his wife Diane of Piscataway; Andrew Moskal and his wife Donna of Nashua, NH; John Moskal of South Bound Brook; and Mark Moskal of South Bound Brook.  Other surviving family members include cousins William and Dennis Rusnak of South Bound Brook, Alice Jones and her husband Russ of Albuquerque, NM, and his sister-in-law Michelle Moskal of Somerset.  Uncle Wally will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews: Robert and Jennifer Tuck, Mary Tuck and Scott Stapleton, Stephanie and Kevin Gill, Erin and Shane Alsop, Christopher and Brittany Wielgosz, Adam and Melissa Wielgosz, Kevin and Erinn Fitzmaurice, Thomas Moskal, Sarah and Frank Kurcin, Kathleen Fitzmaurice, Kelly Fitzmaurice, Victoria and Jose Salazar, and Amanda Moskal, along with numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, April 8 from 4pm-8pm at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave, Bound Brook with a prayer service beginning at 5:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary - https://bestfriends.org
