Virginia Haley

February 3, 1931 — July 26, 2024

Virginia Haley, 93, passed away peacefully 0n Friday, July 26, 2024, at Complete Care at Cedar Grove. Born and raised in Bound Brook, Virginia was the daughter of the late Virgilio and Filomena (DePaolo) DiLeo.


Virginia's life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family and her passions. She dedicated many years of her life to being a stay-at-home mom, nurturing and supporting her children with boundless love and dedication. Her career began with various positions at Rutgers University, but her most cherished role was as a Teacher’s Aide at Wee People Preschool, where her love for children shone brightly.


Her passions extended beyond her professional life. Virginia was an avid opera fan, captivated by the beauty and drama of the art form. Her love for Cape May was equally profound, and she visited the charming town as often as she could, finding solace and joy in its serene surroundings. An enthusiastic reader, Virginia spent her years at the nursing home immersing herself in countless memoirs of Italian American lives, with a special place in her heart for Frank Sinatra’s story. Virginia was a devoted fan of Rutgers and the Yankees, she admired the grace of Joe DiMaggio, whose talents and character won her admiration second only to Sinatra.


Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Charles Haley Sr. in 1988, and her sisters, Mary Bubenick and Benedetta Lombardi. She survived by her two loving children, Chuck Haley and Mary Ellen Haley, and her husband, Vincent Panaggio, her sister Aida Meyer, her nieces and nephews, and many dear friends who will remember her for her vibrant personality. Her legacy of kindness, passion, and devotion will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.


Cremation was private.  A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Bound Brook Cemetery.

Arrangements are in the care of Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, Bound Brook.
