Virginia Pauline Balascio, 87, of Ocean Pines, MD, formerly of Iselin, NJ, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore. Born in the Bronx, NY, to the late Alfio and Rose (Mucciariello) Caterina, she graduated from Evander Childs High School in 1944. She lived in the Bronx for 26 years before moving to Iselin in 1952 where she raised her family until moving to Maryland in 1994. Prior to retiring in 1981, Virginia was employed for 18 years as an assembly inspector at New Departure-Hyatt Bearing in Clark, NJ. Her beloved husband, Anthony, predeceased her in 1992. Surviving are her sister, Victoria Montazzoli, three sons, Robert Balascio and his wife, Kathleen, John Balascio and Peter Balascio; two daughters, Susan Balascio and her partner, Shelby Sims, and Lisa Balascio Frick and her husband Ken; 6 grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, John and Janine Balascio and Thomas and Anthony Frick; and five great grandchildren; William, Drew, Margaret, Dustin and Brendon Balascio. Funeral services will begin 9:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 7, at the funeral home,followed by a 10:30 A.M. Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of the Mount Chapel, 167 Mount Bethel Rd., Warren. Interment will be at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be Tuesday, 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 P.M.
