Thomas Izzo, 93, passed away on January 11, 2023, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital-Somerset. Born in the Bronx, NY in 1929 he moved back to Casetta, Naples, Italy at the age of 4 where he was raised on his family’s farm. He was the son of Pasquale and Vincenza (Obolo). In 1955, he moved to Bound Brook, NJ, married Maria Destefano, where they raised their five children. He worked at Johnson & Johnson for 30 years in Somerville.
Thomas was an avid gardener, cook, award-winning winemaker, and most importantly father and grandfather. He spent his earlier years bowling and playing cards as a member of the Italian American sports club. He loved watching soccer and listening to Italian music. His favorite times were sharing stories of his life with his children and grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
Thomas was predeceased by his beloved wife Maria and his siblings, Dominic, Louis, Tony, Rose, and Josephine. He is survived by his children, Pasquale and his wife Mary Izzo, Gennaro and his wife Lori Izzo, Vincenza and her husband James Miele, Maria and her husband John Manganaro, and Steven Izzo; and his grandchildren, Jake, Daniella, Maria, Michael, Olivia, Gia, and Tanya.
Gathering with the family will be 4 PM to 8 PM, Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave., Bound Brook. Funeral services will begin at 8:45 AM on Friday, January 13, 2023, at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, Bound Brook. Entombment will follow at Lake Nelson Memorial Cemetery, 196 Morris Ave., Piscataway NJ.
