Thomas Bernotas

December 8, 1927 — June 3, 2018

Thomas E. Bernotas, 90, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2018, at his home in Bound Brook, surrounded by his family. Born in Giradville, PA. he was the son of John and Anna (Subich) Bernotas. A veteran of WWII, Tom enlisted in the US Army in 1946, and was the recipient of WWII Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion Giles-Biondi Post No. 63, serving as Chaplin. Tom worked for Johns-Manville for 17 years and at SmithKline Beecham in Piscataway before retiring in 1992. Tom was a devout Catholic, particularly devoted to the Blessed Mother. He served as a Eucharistic minister and sacristan and was a member of the Charismatic Prayer Group, the Christ in Action Ministry, and the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima. Tom loved painting, deep sea fishing, photography and spending time with his family in Maine. He will be remembered for his love of life and as a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife, Frances in 1999, his siblings Helen, Margaret, Veronica, John, Mary, Jerome, Vincent, Ralph, and Jean. He leaves behind his daughters Sandra Sauer and her husband Martin of Bound Brook, and Linda Fierst and her husband Daniel of Flemington. His grandchildren, Peter, Jill and Daniel, his four great grandchildren, his sisters Barbara Ressler and Dorothy Staundenmeier, both of PA. Gathering with the family will be 4:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 7, 2018, at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin 9:15 AM, Friday at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church in Bound Brook. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough. Memorial donations may be made to American Legion Giles-Biondi Post No. 63, Bound Brook.
