Tammy Bohay

October 24, 1962 — February 22, 2023

Tammy Lee Bohay, 60, Robbinsville, New Jersey

Tammy Lee Bohay, 60, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2023, at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Hamilton, New Jersey, with her sister, Heidi Bohay Spound, at her side.

Born in Somerville, New Jersey, Tammy was the younger daughter of Harry and Arlene (Fehr) Bohay. Raised in South Bound Brook, New Jersey, Tammy was affectionately known as the “Tams” of Hi-Tams Ice Cream Store, the local ice cream store operated by her parents and family. She was one of the first students from South Bound Brook to attend The Midland School, in Branchburg, New Jersey from 1967-1979. In 1992, Tammy was supported by Eden Autism Services, a provider of autism resources, for the remainder of her life. Residing at Eden’s Farley House, Tammy enjoyed daily activities and events with her five housemates, as well as her caretakers. Over the years Tammy regularly attended Schalke’s Crossing Day Center, as part of Eden’s Adult Services Program. Tammy also enjoyed swimming activities run by Special Olympics New Jersey, along with vacations at the Jersey Shore with her housemates and caretakers. However, some of her most treasured moments were trips to the mall, and watching local marching bands practice with her father, every Saturday for 30 years, as well as enjoying homemade meals, made and delivered by her mother to Farley House.

Tammy was loved by so many. Her sweet, kind, and naturally funny nature was always the greatest gift to her family and friends, along with a perfect delivery of a humorous anecdote, at the perfect moment. Her memory of people, animals and events was beyond exceptional - impressive to anyone with whom she spoke. Everyone who knew Tammy was blessed to have known her.

She joins her parents, as well as many local family members, and pets, in heaven. She is survived by her sister, Heidi Bohay Spound, brother-in-law, Michael Spound; nephews, Zachary, Jonah and Gabriel; aunts, Stella Bohay Sutton and Sophie Bohay Mielnicki; cousins, Diane Sutton Lopa, Nancy Sutton Zabreski, Rachael Lopa, and many other cousins across New Jersey and the country.

A celebration of Tammy’s life will be held by family and close friends, within the next few months. Arrangements were in the care of Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home. Memorial donations can be made to Eden Autism Services Foundation (https://edenautism.org/contact-foundation/).
