Susan Rose Mollica of Bound Brook, died on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, just one day shy of her 95th birthday. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY as Assunta DeStefano and moved to Bound Brook in 1954.
Susan was a dedicated registered nurse for her professional life of 43 years. She began as an operating nurse, then a Red Cross nurse during the Korea War. After moving to Bound Brook, she was employed by Somerset Hospital as a critical care nurse in the ICU and CCU. She advanced to Clinical Coordinator/Supervisor before retiring in 1991.
She was a member of the American Nurses Association, NJ League of Nursing, The Council of Middle Nurse Managers, and enjoyed being a member of the Bound Brook Literary Club.
She always put the needs of others ahead of her own by helping out or offering words of comfort. She loved flower and vegetable gardening, reading books, articles and recipes. She loved all animals, especially dogs, which includes her longtime gentle companion, Max who was born in her kitchen and lived to be an “old man.”
Susan was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, parents Gerlando and Calogera DiStefano, brothers Charles (Mary) and Rosario (Ramona) DeStefano, sister Anne Fodera (John), and brothers-in-law John Battaglia and Robert Mollica.
She is survived by her two children Patricia Hargleroad of Wheeling, WV and Allen (Carol) Mollica of Middlesex, NJ, sister Millie Battaglia of Boston, and sister-in-law Joan Mollica of Rotonda West, FL. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Anne, Kathie, Sara, Joe, and Craig, plus many caring nieces and nephews.
Susan was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Bound Brook. More recently, she joined the Passionist Community on-line Sunday Mass.
In lieu of flowers, online donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org/donate. Mail-in donations can be made with a donation form from the same website. Or, you can make a donation to any Animal Rescue of your choosing.
Cremation was private. A memorial service will be arranged at the family’s convenience. Arrangements are in the care of Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home.
