Sophie Bohay Mielnicki, 98, passed away into the arms of her Lord early Friday morning, June 2nd with her loving family by her side. Sophie, daughter of Charles and Ida (Bodnar) Bohay was born in Evansville, PA, then moved to South Bound Brook where she and her siblings were raised. In her younger years Sophie was a left fielder for the Penguinettes Girls Softball Club. She graduated from Bound Brook high school class of 1942. Sophie married the love of her life Charles Mielnicki (B.B.P.D.) in 1950 and settled in Bound Brook to raise their two sons, Tony and Michael. She was a parishioner and Rosary Altar Society member of St. Mary’s of Czestochowa Church. Sophie worked as a legal secretary for many years for Judge Chiaravalli and Judge Leahy in Bound Brook. She retired from Ethicon in 1987 as a quality control supervisor. Sophie traveled to many European countries with her sisters and enjoyed bus trips to A.C. with extended family members. She loved to read mystery and history book and she was extremely proud of her Ukrainian heritage. She always watched old movies and couldn’t wait for another episode of Downton Abbey, but her favorite pastime was spending quality time with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Charles in 2013, sister Mary, and brothers, Peter, John, Paul, and Harry. Sophie is survived by her loving sons Michael, and Tony and his wife Ginny three grandchildren; Alexandra, Taylor, and Anthony, and a great granddaughter; Brooke, sister; Stella Bohay Sutton, devoted niece; Diane Lopa and many nieces and nephews all of whom adored her.
Gathering with the family will be Wednesday, June 07, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave., Bound Brook. A graveside service will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hillsborough Township.
