Russ

November 25, 1943 — June 17, 2023

Frederick “Russ” Reynolds, 79, died peacefully at home with his family by his side. Born in South Bound Brook, he was the son of Frederick W. and Hazel (McLean) Reynolds. Russ grew up in Franklin Township, and was a graduate of Bound Brook High School, class of 1962. He married his sweetheart LaVine in 1965 and resided in South Bound Brook to raise their family. Russ was drafted into the Army in 1966 where he served two years including thirteen months in the DMZ during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge in 1968, he joined the National Guard. Russ was a dedicated public servant and a man who was generous with his time and kindness. He served as councilman in South Bound Brook and became Mayor for two consecutive terms. During his tenure, he was known to deliver coffee to community service workers and commandeer snow plows to clear the local roads after heavy snows. He worked for many years at Union Carbide, had been promoted to supervisor, but soon realized that he preferred general management. While working at Union Carbide, he dressed as a clown for their annual family day. Russ also volunteered his time at RWJU Hospital in New Brunswick blowing up helium balloons for the IVF program, and regularly donated blood at Somerset Medical Center. He participated in Hands Across America and volunteered with the United Way. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 63 and Bound Brook Elks Lodge #1388, where he was named Elk of the year, After retirement, Russ landed a part-time job parking cars at Rutgers for their sporting events & other local venues which he loved.


Russ is survived by his loving wife, LaVine; his daughters Audrey Ann Zaccardi, Paula Jean Reynolds, his son Frederick Russell Reynolds II, and his wife Jessica; His grandchildren Nikko, JohnTyler (JT), and Joliana Zaccardi; Emily and Freddy Reynolds; His sisters Ruthann Snyder, of S. Bound Brook, Grace Reynolds of Whiting, NJ, and his brother George Reynolds and wife, Marsha of Port Orange, FL; and many nieces and nephews.


Gathering with the family will be 10 AM to 1:30 PM, Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, Bound Brook. Prayer service will begin at 1:30. Cremation was private.
