Romeo Groppi, 85, died Monday, May 22, 2017, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerville, after a short illness. Born in Boiano Molise, Italy, on May 6, 1932, he was the son of Lazzaro and Albina Zano Groppi. He married his beloved wife, Teresa, on May 22, 1956, and came to the United States, living in Bound Brook for the past sixty-one years. He died on their sixty-first anniversary. He and his sister were named after the Alfa Romeo automobile, and he worked for many years on his beloved Alfa Romeos. He had worked for Continental Motors, Plainfield, and later for Millennium Mercedes, Bridgewater. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family, making wine, gardening, and his family in Italy Romeo was predeceased by his parents, his twin brother, Mario, and brother Franco, and sister Londa, all of Italy. Surviving are his beloved wife, Teresa, of Bound Brook; daughters Carla Holinko and husband Michael of Montgomery, and Lisa Kahler and husband Eric, of Hope; his sister, Alfa Davoli of Italy, and his beloved grandchildren, Michael and Chelsea Holinko, and Rebecca and Henry Kahler Funeral services will be 9:00 A.M. Friday, May 26, from the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 A.M. Funeral Mass at St. Mary of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, Bound Brook. Entombment will be at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Relatives and friends will be received 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. Thursday, at the funeral home.
