Robert J. Miller

October 20, 1942 — March 23, 2024

Robert James Miller, 81 passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024, after spending the day surrounded by his beloved family. Robert was born in Neptune, NJ to the late Edward Miller and Doris Mae Miller (Williams). He often told the story that he was small enough as a baby to fit in a shoe box, which surely wasn’t an indicator of his presence and influence on others throughout his life. Known as "Bob" to his family and friends, he was a devoted husband and father, with passions for teaching and photography that bolstered two careers. He was an avid skier, biker, reader, and traveler, enjoying them all the most with his family and friends. Bob was well known throughout most popular diners in NJ, often greeted with a familiar “Bob!” by most any server.

Bob graduated from Pennsbury High School and then went on obtain his teaching degree at Alma White College, where he met his future wife and love, Roberta. Bob taught extensively across all grade levels ranging from Elementary, Middle, and High School during his teaching career in the South Brunswick School System. He adored teaching and was greatly loved by his students and co-workers as they knew he would always go out of his way for them. Bob’s teaching career was multi-generational, and on occasion was approached in public by parents and children that both claimed that Bob was their “best” teacher.

Bob was super creative as well, using his artistry and joy of photography to work as a professional photographer for weddings, professional sports (Eagles), world travel for joint missions and photojournalism, and so much more. He always had his camera nearby, taking beautiful and iconic pictures to capture special moments throughout the years (like his Scorpions blizzard soccer picture). Bob’s pictures continue to bring joy to so many of us.

He was firmly dedicated to his family and their interests, attending all their activities and events, and supporting them in every way possible. Bob treasured his children (and grandchildren), and always talked about them to everyone he knew. Despite his love of football, Bob became an avid soccer fan in large part because of his children’s (and grandchildren’s) endeavors in the sport. Bob was always excited to take his family on vacations and adventures, and simply loved spending time with them.

Bob had a servant’s heart that came from the Most High, the Creator of all things, and showed it with persistent compassion and support of others in need, whether that be family, friends or strangers. He always offered help and cared deeply for everyone he knew. Bob gave of what he had and would always find a way to support those in need. He loved his wife, Roberta, with such a deep and pure love and was devoted to her always. He was a devoted father, friend, and great supporter of all the people he knew. We will all treasure and miss Bob’s beautiful kindness. The love he gave us all came deep from his heart. Everyone who knew Bob will take with them fond memories of care, compassion, and comedy.

Bob is survived by his children, Dana Pittman (with her husband, Michael) and Robert (with his wife, Michelle), and his loving grandchildren, Ashlynn and Ryan, and step-grandchildren, Preslei and Tayler. He is pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Roberta, and his siblings, Lillian (Smith), Tom, Edward. Bob is also survived by Roberta’s siblings, Evelina (Jean), Peter, and Richard, and was blessed to spend time with them and their families throughout his beautiful life’s journey.

John 3:16
