Robert N. Hilton, 69, died Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at home in Hillsborough, with family at his side. Born April 13, 1946, in Somerville, he was the only child of Dr. William D. and Ruth Moen Hilton. He was raised in Bound Brook, graduating Bound Brook High School, Class of 1964. Upon completion of studies at The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City, he ventured west to spearhead countercultural movements in Venice and San Francisco, California, where he thrived as a musician and promoter, conspiring with the likes of Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead, and The Family Dog. In 1975, with an increased passion for Gurdjieffian philosophy and the helping professions, Robert moved to Boston for the advancement of his education and earned an undergraduate degree in Human Services at Franconia College in 1978. Subsequently Robert attained his Master’s Degree in Psychology at New York University in 1986. He practiced as a psychologist, with a focus on substance abuse treatment and program development, for thirty years, until his retirement in 2011. Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife of thirty-five years, Karen Gombas Hilton, who died in April 9, 2010. He is survived by his son, Adam T. Hilton of Hillsborough. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 9, at the funeral home, with the Reverend Susan Gunther officiating. Cremation was private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hilton family, in care of Hagan - Chamberlain Funeral Home.
