Robert E. Barber, Sr., 87, died Sunday, August 13, 2017, at Arbor Glen in Bridgewater. Born in South Bound Brook, he was the son of Nicholas and Anna (Bartoschik) Barber. He was a lifelong resident of South Bound Brook. He was a veteran the Korean War, serving in the United States Army in Germany from 1951 to 1953. He was an Electrician/Supervisor for Public Service Electric & Gas, in New Brunswick, for thirty-five years, before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the South Bound Brook Fire Department for over sixty years, serving as chief in 1969. He was a member of the New Jersey Exempt Firemen, and the South Bound Brook Seniors. He was an avid football fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with his wife through out the country. Robert is survived by his wife of sixty years, Lillian Snyder Barber, his son Robert E. Barber, Jr. of Bridgewater, his daughter Connie Micale and her husband Joseph of Basking Ridge, his beloved five grandchildren, Thomas, Kelly and William Barber and Joseph and Andrew Micale, his brother, Richard Barber of South Bound Brook, and two sisters, Kathleen Felix of Brick, and Viola Korn of Bloomsbury. Funeral services will begin at 8:30 AM, Friday, August, 18 from the funeral home, followed by Funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M., at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church in South Bound Brook. Gathering will be Thursday, August, 17, at the funeral home, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Memorial donations may be made to the South Bound Brook Fire Department.
