Rita E. Morath, 101, formerly of Bound Brook, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025 in Springfield, VA.
Rita was born on October 12, 1923 to Andrew and Mary (Urban) Adamchick of Swoyersville, PA. After graduating from Swoyersville High School as class valedictorian, she attended College Misericordia in Dallas, PA earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. She often stated her years at college were some of her happiest. Her degree led to a job in New Jersey at American Cyanamid in Bound Brook, where she met her future husband Joseph C. Morath from the Bronx, NY. They married and raised a family in Bound Brook until Joe passed on June 20, 1977. She was also employed by National Starch in Plainfield and the New Jersey State Unemployment Office in Somerville.
Rita devoted her life to raising their three daughters: Mary Alice Godfrey, widowed from Michael Godfrey of Hillsborough, NJ, Jane Atwell, wife of Robert Atwell of Springfield, VA, and Phyllis Christ, wife of George Christ of Littlestown, PA. She was loved by her 7 grandchildren: James Godfrey, Steven Christ, Kathryn (Godfrey) Lamanna, Jeffrey Christ, Joseph Atwell, Christine (Atwell) Dujcakova, and Nicholas Atwell. She delighted in spending time with her 13 great grandchildren: Cora, Robbie, Ellie, Everett, Heidi, Lily, Finn, Sarah, Grace, Emersen, Olivia, Ethan, and Grant. She is also survived by her loving niece, Andrea (Adamchick) Dula, wife of Frank Dula and their children Sharon (Dula) Henick and husband, Lance, and Kenneth Dula.
Rita enjoyed time with her family, reading, crocheting, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and traveling to many foreign lands her favorites being Israel, Slovakia, Russia and Spain. Over the years that she lived in Bound Brook, Rita proudly supported St. Joseph’s Church. She volunteered throughout the parish in the parish and school libraries, school cafeteria, PTA, Girl Scouts, and parish bazaars. Rita was active in the Somerset County Senior Women’s Group. She was a loyal graduate of College Misericordia, Dallas, PA, now Misericordia University, and was honored recently when she turned 100 and the university celebrated its 100th anniversary.
