Police Sergeant Daniel Vickey

Police Sergeant Daniel A. Vickey (Retired), 92, died Thursday, December 31, at Somerset Valley Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Bridgewater. Born April 23, 1923, in Bound Brook, he was the son of Daniel and Ann Vukojovich, and was a lifelong borough resident. He graduated Bound Brook High School, Class of 1941. A US Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a Signalman Second Class aboard USS George (DE 697), and saw extensive action in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Sergeant Vickey was an aspiring actor and went to Hollywood to act in films. He found his true calling when he joined the Bound Brook Police Department in 1955. He served there for twenty-five years until his retirement in 1980. An avid golfer, he worked for the Somerset County Golf system after retirement, working at most of the county courses, and managing Warrenbrook Golf Course, Warren. Sergeant Vickey was a family man who adored his grandchildren. He was a member of the Bound Brook Policemen’s Benevolent Association, Local 380, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Giles - Biondi Post No. 63, American Legion, Bound Brook. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Bound Brook. Sergeant Vickey was predeceased by his daughter, Christine Marie Vickey, who died in 2008. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Irene Koval Vickey; his son, Daniel and wife Margaret Vickey of Monroe Township, and his beloved grandchildren, Daniel and Samantha. Funeral services will be 9:15 A.M. Tuesday, January 5, from the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 A.M. Funeral Mass at St Joseph Church. Interment will be at Bound Brook Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home Monday, 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 P.M.
