Otto William Maehr, Sr. 80, died Monday, September 9, 2013 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in the Possumtown section of Piscataway, he was the son of Otto and Elizabeth (Applegate) Maehr. Mr. Maehr graduated from Bound Brook High School in 1950, enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War and was on the USS Pittsburgh and the USS Mississippi. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was the treasurer for New Jersey State Fish and Game. He was the crew chief for his sonâs hot air balloon company and the owner of Maehr Contracting Company, Inc. He was an elder at St. John Lutheran Church in Bound Brook. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley, his daughter, Jackie (Teddy) Ostrowski of Bound Brook, his son, Otto âJRâ (Bridget) Maehr, Jr., of Piscataway, his granddaughters, Jessica Ostrowski and Stephanie Maehr; his sisters, Carline (James) Walk and Dorothy Golfin, and his brothers, Robert (Brenda) Maehr and Carl (Jeanette Trusky) Maehr. Funeral services will be 9:00 AM, Thursday September 12, at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook, followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Service at St. John Lutheran Church, Bound Brook. Burial will be at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM at the funeral home.
