Nelsie Valdes

Nelsie Valdes who was 90 years old, died peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2023, surrounded by her family. Nelsie was born in Cuba 90 years ago, the daughter of the late Miguel Marques and Aida del Prado. Nelsie was educated in Cuba, where she received her teacher degree. She taught elementary school in Cuba for 10 years. She emigrated to the United States in 1971. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Montclair State University and continued her teaching career for an additional 25 years in the Elizabeth School District. Nelsie enjoyed working with her hands – knitting, sewing, embroidering, and working in her garden. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who made everyone around her feel loved. Her absence will be felt by all those who knew her.

Nelsie was predeceased by her husband, Rodolfo in 2007 and her grandson Carlos. She is survived by her daughter, Nelsy Bauza and her husband Carlos, with whom she lived; and her grandchildren Alain Michael and his wife Julie; Jonathan and his wife Natalie and great grand children Zofia, Antonio and Lionel.

Gathering with the family and friends will be at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue in Bound Brook from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, February 15, 2023, with the prayer service beginning at 7:30 PM. Cremation will be private.
