Mary Ann (O’Donnell) Ledger, 78, of Middlesex, N.J. passed away peacefully, surrounded by her beloved daughters on February 9, 2023, at Heath Village in Hackettstown, N.J. Mary Ann was a loving and devoted wife, mother, Deedledee/Grammy and special friend to all who knew her.
Mary Ann was born to James and Bridget (Morrin) O’Donnell in Nashua, NH, and was raised in Manhattan. As the only daughter, third in line, she grew up protected by her 6 wonderful and caring brothers. She graduated from Julia Richmond High School in 1962, and began working at American Express, where she was swept off her feet when she met her gentle giant, Terry. After they married in 1967, they began their life in San Francisco, California, then relocated to Palatine, Illinois, and finally settled in Middlesex, New Jersey to raise a family. Due to Mary Ann’s love for children, she fulfilled her passion by working as a preschool teacher’s assistant for 19 years at Hazelwood Elementary School, retiring in 2013.
Mary Ann was a kind and sentimental soul, who was loved by so many. She valued her large family, Irish heritage, and was a devout Roman Catholic and Trump supporter. She enjoyed traveling many times to Aruba, Disney World, and all over Europe. She enjoyed spending her summers at the Middlesex Pool, going to Broadway, and Plays in the Park in Edison, N.J. Mary Ann loved a good yard sale, comedy and laughter, and could spend hours talking with those she loved until the wee hours of the morning. She was always up for a spontaneous adventure, like the NYC Thanksgiving and St. Patrick’s Day parades. Most of all, she adored precious moments with her 5 grandchildren, who she so beautifully cherished. Mary Ann truly modeled the act of unconditional love everyday.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Kathryn (Brian) Devins and Christine (Keith) Dul, and grandchildren, Bridget and Aisling Devins and Luke, Charlotte, and Oliver Dul. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Terence “Terry” J. Ledger, in November 2019.
