Marie Pezzella

Marie Pezzella, a loving and cherished member of her community, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at the age of 89. Born in Newark, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Anthony and Louisa (Sacco) Giammona. Marie's journey began in Newark, where she graduated from the Girls Vocational School, setting the stage for her industrious and dedicated life. She was a stay at home mom while her children were young. Later, she worked for Franklin Township School District as a custodian for many years until her well-deserved retirement in 2006. Outside of her professional life, Marie enjoyed cooking. She found immense joy in preparing meals for her beloved family, gathering them together for holidays to create lasting memories around the dining table. Marie was an avid Yankee fan, displaying unwavering support for her favorite baseball team throughout the years. Gardening was another passion that she found rewarding. Marie also had a keen eye for spotting treasures and enjoyed hunting for bargains at garage sales. This pastime not only satisfied her love for a good deal but also allowed her to connect with her community and forge lasting friendships. One of her most cherished friendships was with her dear friend Rose, and together they became known for their daily walks around South Bound Brook. Their companionship was a source of great joy and comfort throughout the years. Marie's adventurous spirit took her to many destinations, she traveled with her sisters to Aruba, Italy, Greece, and the Jersey Shore. These trips created unforgettable memories and strengthened the bond she shared with her siblings. Throughout her life, Marie remained a devout member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, finding solace, comfort, and spiritual guidance in her faith.

Marie was predeceased by her loving husband, Benito; her cherished granddaughter Tara Whitman; and her sister Olga Machalla. She is survived by her loving children Ann Whitman, Anthony Pezzella and Debbie (wife), her granddaughter Rachel Richter; grandson Steven Pezzella; her sisters Lucille Giammona and Enna Del Russo; her brother Anthony Giammona; and her nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Gathering with the family will be 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 7:00 – 9:00 PM, Thursday, August 10th, at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Friday at Our Lady of Mercy Church, South Bound Brook. Burial at Bound Brook Cemetery will follow. May her soul find eternal rest, and may her memory be a blessing to us all.
