Maria Reissmann

Mrs. Maria Reissmann, aged 93, died surrounded by family on November 8, 2020 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in 1927 in New Brunswick, she was the daughter of Harold and Margaret (Lauer) Robinson. Maria studied at Quinnipiac University, earning a degree in Physical Therapy before continuing her education in Boston, MA. She married her husband, Dr. Thomas Reissmann, in 1951. They were married for 60 years before his passing in 2012. Maria and Tom made their home in New Jersey, where Maria was an active member of the Skycrest Organization and the Women’s Literary Club of Bound Brook. She was an avid reader completing two to three books a week. She also belonged to the Bound Brook Garden Club though, while she loved the ladies and group meetings, she was never one to put her fingers in the dirt. The Reissmann’s home was always welcoming and they cultivated lifelong friendships. Maria was a fantastic cook and looked forward to entertaining. Her parties were an annual highlight, in no small part due to the unforgettable Christmas punch. While Maria and Tom cherished traveling the world with family and friends, one of Maria’s favorite destinations was Happy Valley, PA to watch Penn State football. She often found herself on the water, whether at the shore or sailing in the Caribbean with the Raritan Valley Yacht Club. Maria loved all animals and no cat, raccoon, or vulture that came to her back door was ever denied something to eat. She generously supported animal charities throughout her life. Maria is best remembered for her laugh and spirit - none who met her could help but be charmed by her wit, humor, and warmth. Maria is survived by her children, Alan Reissmann of Washington, and Elizabeth (Lisa) Eagan of Martinsville, her daughter-in-law Michele Reissmann, her grandchildren Thomas Reissmann and Catherine Trama, and her grandson-in-law Luke Trama. Cremation was private. Anyone wishing to honor Maria is invited to make a donation to an animal welfare organization, such as St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center or PETA. In lieu of this, hanging out a bird feeder and feeding the birds this winter or dropping a bag of dry cat or dog food in your food store Humane Society collection box would make Maria very happy.
