Maria "Mary" Figliano

Maria “Mary” Figliano, 89, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital – Somerset surrounded by her family. Born in Sant’ Onofrio, Calabria, Italy, she was the daughter of Giuseppe and Domenica (Cirianni) Gullia. Mary emigrated to the US in 1959 and moved to Bound Brook in 1960. Mary was an amazing, tireless woman. A self-employed seamstress and entrepreneur she spent her free time cooking, baking and providing. She provided for her elderly parents, who lived with her and her family and she provided for her young daughters after the passing of her husband, Anthony in 1981. Mary was a devout communicant of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church in Bound Brook, a member of the Rosary Altar Society and a member of the Bound Brook Senior Club. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be remembered by many for her hilarious honesty, quick wit, strength and deep love for her family. She was a fire that burned bright, right until the very end, and the world will be dimmer without her. Mary is predeceased by her husband, Anthony, her brother Vincent, and her sister Anna Civiletti. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Gerry Rieger, and her husband Mike of Bridgewater; and Mimi Olsen and her husband, Rex of Martinsville; her grandchildren Lynne, Michael, and Kalyn Rieger and Rex and Bianca Olsen; her great granddaughter Alina her brothers, Dominick and Onofrio Gullia; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Gathering with the family will be 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin 8:45 AM, Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Bound Brook. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery, Bridgewater.
