Madeline Rose Schreiber, 86, died Friday, June 9, 2017, at Regency Jewish Heritage Nursing and Postacute Rehabilitation Center, Somerset, New Jersey. Born February 17, 1931, in Plainfield, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Max and Frances Hochheiser. She was born and raised in Plainfield, raised her children in North Plainfield and later moved to Bound Brook where she resided for forty years. In 2016 she moved into Regency. Following high school Madeline was a homemaker and focused on raising her two children. Later she went to work as a bookkeeper at her family business, Hochheiser Brothers, Inc., in Plainfield, retiring in 1993. In retirement she decided to return to the work force part-time, taking a job as a receptionist at Stein Assisted Living in Somerset. She was a member of Congregation Knesseth Israel, Bound Brook, for many years serving in several roles including Sisterhood President and Board Member; she was also in charge of running the gift shop. She loved to tell stories of the family history, enjoyed spending time window shopping with her daughters, participating in flea markets, and visiting local attractions with her grandsons, and she was always a positive, caring person, whose wonderful smile could brighten anyones' day. Madeline is survived by her daughters, Linda Schreiber of Somerset, New Jersey, Dyan (Richard) Duff of Stockbridge, Georgia; her grandchildren, Matthew (Honeylit) Duff, Ethan Duff, and her beloved great-granddaughter, Fiona Duff. Memorial contributions in Madeline’s name may be made to Congregation Knesseth Israel, 229 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook, New Jersey 08805. Graveside services were held 1:45 P.M. Monday, June 12, at the Samptown Cemetery, South Plainfield, with Rabbi Jack Kramer of Congregation Knesseth Israel officiating.
