Luba Shevchenko

Luba Shevchenko, 85, died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born June 10, 1928, in Matiashivka, Ukraine, she came to the United States in 1951. She and her husband, Oleksij Shevchenko, eventually settled in Bridgewater where she resided for the past forty-four years. Mrs. Shevchenko was a founding member of St. Andrew Memorial Ukrainian Orthodox Church, South Bound Brook. She served on the Auditing Committee for the United Sisterhood of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in America, as Chairwoman of the Cultural Committee, and was a longtime member and the current President of St. Andrew Memorial Church Sisterhood, local chapter. Mrs. Shevchenko was predeceased by her husband, Oleksij, in 2008. She is survived by her son, Andrew and wife, Anna, and their son, Dmytro, of Randolph, and her daughter, Olya and husband, Paul Goncharoff of New York City. Funeral Liturgy will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 17, at St. Andrew Memorial Ukrainian Orthodox Church, South Bound Brook. Burial will be at St. Andrew Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8 :00 P.M. Sunday, at Hagan - Chamberlain Funeral Home, with a Panachida service at 7:00 P.M.
