Louis J. Pinto, 96, died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at home. Born August 25, 1919, in Bound Brook, he lived there until moving to Middlesex in 1995. He graduated Bound Brook High School, Class of 1938, and from Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania, in 1942, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering. After eighteen months employment at the Lake Ontario Ordnance Works, Niagara County, New York, Lou left to join the Manhattan Engineering District at the Oak Ridge, Tennessee, uranium production plant for the atomic bomb project until the end of World War II. After the war he was employed by the Atomic Energy Commission at the New Brunswick Laboratory for thirty years, retiring in 1975. Lou had been active in the Bound Brook community. He served on the Recreation Committee and the Board of Adjustment. He was also active in the Somerset County United Way Fund Campaign, and was a past member of Bound Brook Lodge No. 1388, B.P.O. Elks. He was a member of the Friends of the Middlesex Library. He was an outdoorsman and active in various sports: tennis, golf, downhill and cross country skiing, hiking, and biking. He was a Communicant of St. Joseph R. C. Church, Bound Brook. Lou was predeceased by eight of his brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his brothers, Frank and Vito Pinto of Bound Brook, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 9:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 20, from the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 A.M Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Bridgewater. Friends will be received at the funeral home 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Middlesex Library, 1300 Mountain Avenue, Middlesex, New Jersey 08846.
