Lindo Nangeroni

October 7, 1919 — December 14, 2015

Lindo Paul Nangeroni, 96, died December 14, 2015, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Fort Lee, he was the son of Alfredo and Teresa [Rippo] Nangeroni. He moved to Bound Brook in 1923 when his parents opened the Bound Brook Inn. He was a graduate of Bound Brook High School, Class of 1937, and Rutgers University, Class of 1941, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of the wrestling teams for Bound Brook and Rutgers University, and a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He did post graduate work at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and Princeton University. Lindo was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II, enlisting in 1944. He served with the Pacific Amphibian Forces at the invasion of Okinawa. Upon his discharge, he worked at American Cyanamid as a chemical engineer in the pigment division. He was a member of the American Chemical Society and the Cyanamid Golf Team. He enjoyed camping with his family on his farm in Ithaca, New York, on Lake Cayuga. He was a very active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Bound Brook, serving as an usher, a member of the vestry, and a cook for the church’s monthly pancake breakfast. He loved the outdoors, tending his home and gardens, cooking, grilling, baking bread, and spending time with his family. Lindo’s niece said it best, “Uncle Lindo has inspired me to stay sharp—always researching and questioning like the good scientist that he was. Never pretentious, the truly welcoming Nangeroni restaurateur spirit lived in his actions, as he welcomed us into his home. We all were lulled into thinking he would live for many more years. He will be greatly missed.” Lindo is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-nine years, Mary Lee (Payne); children, Martha P. Stephens, Tennessee; Peter M. Nangeroni, Pennsylvania; Lindo P. Nangeroni, Jr., Martinsville; Molly H. Doremus, Edison; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Bess, Molly Casey, Matthew Stephens, Kathryn Stephens, Chuck Stephens, Mary Beth Angeles, Rosalind Doremus, and Molly Doremus; and ten great grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Bound Brook. Burial of ashes will be at Bound Brook Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church , 214 Church Street, Bound Brook, NJ 08805.
