Kostas Schadas

Kostas “Gus” Schadas, 98, died Tuesday, November 17, 2015, with his family by his side. Born in Episkopiki, Greek Albania, he was the son of William and Lambridini (Melas). He emigrated to the United States via Ellis Island in 1937, and was a resident of South Bound Brook for 55 years. Mr. Schadas was a restaurateur, and owner of Maryann Luncheonette in Plainfield. During the last 30 years of his career, he was regional sales manager for Lacas Coffee in Pennsauken. Mr. Schadas was a very active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, serving on various committees. He was on the board of trustees, and was a tireless volunteer at the Church’s annual Greek Festival. He was a 70 year member of the Order of Ahepa. He loved to travel with his wife, Olga, and together they went to Aruba, Hawaii, and Canada. Mr. Schadas was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Olga in 2007. He is survived by his children, George (Nancy) Schadas, Owensboro, KY; William Schadas, South Bound Brook; and Helen (Lou) Ventrillo, Toms River; his grandchildren, Lou (Maryellen) Ventrillo, Peter (Felicia) Ventrillo, Jacqueline Schadas and Ben Schadas; his great grandson, Ryan Ventrillo, his sister Sofia, Greek Albania; and nephew, Thomas (Paula) Terpos and their daughter, Alexis. Services will begin 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 21, 2015, at the funeral home, followed by an 11:30 A.M. funeral service at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Piscataway. Visitation will be Friday, 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. Burial will be at Bound Brook Cemetery.
