Joseph Francis Mangino, 77 died peacefully on June 15, 2018, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital - Somerset. Born in Somerville, he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Leibold) Mangino. A longtime resident of Bound Brook, Joe graduated from Bound Brook High School in 1959 and moved to Bridgewater in 1961. He was a senior machinist at Manroland in Middlesex for over 40 years, before retiring at age 62. An avid outdoorsman, Joe loved fishing and hunting and was a member of the Cedar Rod and Gun Club. Joe lived his life with a quiet dignity that commanded the respect of all who knew him. His strong work ethic, strong sense of personal accountability, and generosity of spirit were the hallmarks of his character. The oldest of four children, Joe was at the heart and spirit of the Mangino family. And he was in a league of his own when it came to loyalty to his friends. When you became Joe’s friend, you had a friend for life. He so graciously shared his love, caring, quick wit and joy of life. Joe held himself to very high moral standards. Honesty and integrity were his unwavering guiding principles. Joe was also passionate about nature and animals. As an avid hunter and fisherman most of his life, he had a deep respect for all forms of life, especially the many dogs he had over the years. Joe enjoyed a very special relationship with his grandson Theo, whose middle name is Joseph, given in honor of Joe. And Joe, who loved to cook, made a special chicken soup for Theo, which he called “Pop-Pop’s Chicken Soup”. In addition to his grandson Theo, Joe is survived by his loving wife, Lillian; his step daughter Donna Mackey, his siblings Dennis Mangino, Roseann Cooper and her partner Ron Gatyas, and Elizabeth Wallace and her husband Todd; and his niece, Lisa Mangino. Gathering with the family will be 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM Friday, June 22, 2018, at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave., Bound Brook. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM, Saturday, at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church in Middlesex. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bridgewater.
