John K Thorkildsen, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving daughter and son at Little Brook Nursing and Convalescent Home in Califon, NJ. Born in Brooklyn NY, John was the son of Karl and Anne (Eliassen) Thorkildsen. John was a graduate of Princeton High School, and had worked as a carpenter with Carpenters Local No. 1006 in Milltown, NJ. He was a US Army Veteran, serving from 1956 to 1961. He was a member of the VFW Post NO. 9111 in Kendall Park, NJ, where he played Santa Claus during their Christmas parties. John most enjoyed singing, and playing the guitar, fishing, bowling, and watching his favorite New York ball clubs: The Giants and Yankees. His other hobbies included painting, woodburning, bow hunting, as well as involving himself in projects around the house.
John was predeceased by his wife Ulla and his brothers Stanley and Raymond.
He is survived by his daughter Ingrid and her husband Bob Sanislo; and his son John Jr. and his wife Lynn Thorkildsen; his five grandchildren, Alyssa Brown and her husband Joel, Brittany Thieme and her husband Mike; Faith Mehesy and her husband Tim; Nicolette, and Cameron Thorkildsen; his three great grandchildren Dakota, Raegan, and Ivy; his sisters Anita Kokosinski and Gladys Duell as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will begin at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Bunker Hill Lutheran Church in Griggstown. Cremation was private. Arrangements were in the care of Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, Bound Brook.
