John E. “Jack” Hawkins, 83, died, Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Center for Hope Hospice, Scotch Plains. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of John and Mildred [Hyneman] Hawkins. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. While in high school, Jack earned an athletic scholarship for baseball and basketball, and was a graduate of Williams College, Massachusetts. He turned down an offer to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers Minor League baseball team, choosing instead to marry Doris, after meeting on a blind date. They lived in San Antonio, Texas, before moving to Plainfield, ultimately settling in Bridgewater. Jack was a long time coach for Bridgewater Little League, and member of the Presbyterian Church, Bound Brook, serving as a Deacon. He was a central New Jersey sales representative with Upjohn Pharmaceuticals for forty years, retiring in 1997. Jack was predeceased by his son, Mark, in 2013. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Doris; his sons, Scott Hawkins of Bridgewater, Neil Hawkins and his wife, Janet, of Whitehouse; his daughter in law, Karen Hawkins of Raritan; his grandchildren, Jocelyn, Aimee, Sabrina, Tyler, Trevor, Lucy, Lena, Russell, and Melissa, and his beloved great granddaughter. The Memorial Service has been changed due to heavy snowfall, and will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 30 , at the Presbyterian Church, Bound Brook. Cremation was private.
