John Paul Gabory, Jr., was born on July 27, 1945, in New Brunswick, to John P. Gabory, Sr., and Mary Semasko. Johnny grew up in Manville, before moving to Bound Brook in 1968. He was a graduate of Manville High School, Class of 1963. He became a member of Bound Brook Volunteer Fire Department No. 4 in 1969. He attended Texas A. & M. for fire training. John was a dedicated member for 44 years and was fire chief in 1985 and 1986. His brothers in the department were family to John. He was an ace pitcher for the BBFD softball team into his sixties. John was an electrician at Triboro Electric for 5 years, and worked at Johns Manville for 5 years. He also made many friends during his 35 years working as a supervisor and Senior Lab Technologist for Union Carbide Corporation (now know as Dow Chemical). John became an actor after taking classes at RVCC. He was a community theater actor and also played the role of King Malcolm in the Somerset Renaissance Festival from 1991 to 2005. John was an avid fisherman who enjoyed many outings on his Grady White. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Bound Brook. In his retirement, John enjoyed time spent at his second home in Gulfport, FL, rooting for his Giants, Mets, and Rutgers Football, but more than anything John enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. John was predeceased by his younger brother, Michael Gabory of Lehighton, PA.. He is survived by his beautiful wife who he adored more than anyone, Cynthia (Kline); his oldest daughter, Sherri Bartocci, son-in-law Al Bartocci; his (grand) buddies A.J. and Tommy and his jellybean, Angela of Raritan; his younger daughter Lori McLain, son-in-law Tom McLain, and buddies Mark, Jason and Jack of Hillsborough. John, known as Pop to his 6 adoring grandchildren, took great pleasure in watching ALL of their ball games, sporting events, concerts, and cheer competitions. He was a devoted fan of the Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers Pop Warner and high school teams, and the Hillsborough Dukes Pop Warner teams. He is survived by a sister, Alice Gazaway of Manville,and a brother, Stan Buryta of Hanford, CA.. Visitation with the family will be Friday, October 4, 2013, from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. at Hagan - Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave., Bound Brook.. Funeral services will begin 10:30 A.M. Saturday, at the funeral home, followed by an 11:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church. Entombment will be at St. Bernardâs Cemetery, Bridgewater. Memorial donations may be made to Carol G. Simon Cancer Center Foundation for MMC, 475 South St. , Morristown, NJ 07960.
