John Flower

John R. Flower, 83, died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Born April 11, 1931, in Bound Brook, he was the son of John and Mary Rehor Flower. He moved to Bridgewater in 1959, then to Pennsylvania in 1990. He served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade aboard destroyer Bearss (DD 654) in the United States Navy during the Korean War. John received his Bachelor Degree and Master Degree in Education from Rutgers University, New Brunswick. He taught mathematics at Somerville High School, then Hillside School in Bridgewater. He was then appointed Vice-Principal at Eisenhower Middle School, Bridgewater, and then Vice-Principal at Bridgewater-Raritan High School West, retiring in 1989. John was a member of the Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an active member of the USS Bearss DD 654 Club. He was a member of the New Jersey Education Association and the National Principal Association. He served on the Board of Directors at Locust Lake Village, Pocono Lake, Pennsylvania, and at the Shaw Village Homeowners Association, Drums, Pennsylvania. John was predeceased by his brothers, Ken and Henry Flower. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Barbara Embley Flower; his daughters, Karen (George) Dome of Tinton Falls, Lori (Gary) Francisco of Bedminster, Susan (Bill) Flynn of Hillsborough, and his beloved grandchildren, Heather Dome; Patrick, T.J., and Kyle Flynn, and Jennifer and Richie Potts. Family and friends will be received at Hagan - Chamberlain Funeral Home from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. Thursday. Visitation is at 10:15 A.M. Friday, June 27, with funeral services beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Bound Brook Cemetery.
