Jerome T. Bowers, 77, died Friday, August 1, 2014, at his home with his family at his side. Born in Minersville, PA., he was the son of Abel and Helen (Walasavage) Bowers. He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He had resided in South Bound Brook since 1960. Jerry retired in 2000 as a Foreman at Mobil Chemical Co., Edison, after 28 years with the company. In 1971, he joined South Bound Brook Fire Co. No. 1, becoming Chief in 1982, then served until the present as Engineer. He was a member of Carroll DuPree Post No. 363, American Legion. He was a Communicant of Our Lady of Mercy R. C. Church, South Bound Brook. In retirement he enjoyed playing sports, especially softball, golf, travel, family and friends. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers football, Pittsburgh Pirates baseball, and Pittsburgh Penguins hockey fan. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Taglieri Bowers; his children, Christine (Mark) Bean of Decatur, GA, Steven (Laura Sargent) Bowers of Hillsborough, Jerome T. Bowers, Jr., of Woodbridge, VA; his sister, Lorraine Ostrowski of Minersville; his beloved granddaughter, Emily Whiting Bowers. Funeral services will be 9:15 A.M. Monday, August 4,the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 A.M. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Entombment will be at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Friends will be received at the funeral home 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. Sunday.
