Jeffrey Edward Smith, aged 74, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at his home in Bound Brook, NJ with his family by his side. Born in Plainfield, NJ, he was a beloved son of the late Edward and Norma (Eise) Smith. His early years were spent in Scotch Plains, where he grew up and graduated from Scotch Plains - Fanwood High School; post high school he earned his bachelor’s degree at Rutgers University. His education would pave the way for a successful career in finance. Jeffrey worked as the Chief Financial Officer and Controller at Millington Bank. Jeffrey served in the US Army from 1970 through 1971, and continued his service in the Air National Guard of New York until 1975.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jeffrey had a rich and varied set of interests. He loved classic black and white movies, history documentaries and topical political shows, and was a dedicated fan of Rutgers football and men’s basketball. One of Jeffrey's pastimes was collecting baseball memorabilia and coins. He had an eye for the rare and unique, and his collections were a reflection of his passion for history and sports. Love found Jeffrey in the most unexpected of places. He met his beloved wife, Anita, at the Rock Machine in Bound Brook. The music drew him in, and their 50 year love story began amidst the backdrop of live music. Together, they created a lifetime of cherished memories.
Jeffrey was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Randall and Craig. He is survived by his wife, Anita and his sons Joseph (Ruth Bartolo) and Stephen (Jennifer Elkowitz); his grandson Brandon; his sister Pamela (Norman) Torgerson; nieces Emily (Matthew) Green and Corinna Smith; his nephew Justin Smith; many cousins and his beloved dog, Enzo.
