Jean M. Cherneski passed away at the young age of 70 on Saturday, August 26, 2017, with her love of thirty-five years, John Kaminsky, by her side. She was born on April 24, 1947, in Somerville, to Edward and Stella (Cwik) Franzyshen. She had two sisters, Marian Russo and Kathleen Bodo. She lived in Somerset her entire life and in the house her dad built, for sixty-five years. Jean was always a happy, fun-loving, free spirited soul who was the life of the party, believed in being positive and lived life to the fullest. Jean had several careers, including entrepreneurial ones. She spent her later working years at Oticon, Inc., in Somerset, where she worked for fifteen years and retired in 2006. Jean was blessed with beauty and a sunny attitude. She was also blessed with three children: Christine (Scott) Kurzweil of Point Pleasant, Robyn Gardner of Manville, and David (Regina) Cherneski of Bangor, Pennsylvania, thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandson. One of her greatest joys was to have her family together at her home where she always hosted warm holiday gatherings. She loved being a mother and grandmother! She was interested in all of their lives and attended many school, sports, band and cheering functions. Jean and John were also host to many memorable parties at their home. On these occasions they opened their home to everyone. I'm sure many have some zany memories of weddings, bridal and baby showers, wheel chair races, hot tub parties in winter, pig roasts, etc. It wasn't truly a party however, unless the police made an appearance due to the occasional firework that would inevitably be lit! She and John loved to travel and visited many places, some of her favorites were St. Maarten, St. Thomas, and Mexico. She also had a ball on many skiing, boating, and motorcycle adventures! Jean was a class act and a flawless dresser, ever concerned about her appearance. It was a trait she valued. She enjoyed having a nice outfit and fresh makeup on every day which helped her be the positive ray of light that she brought to all who knew her. She is sorely missed by all. Please share your favorite memories, stories and photos of Jean and share this page with those who knew her. A visitation service will be held 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at the funeral home. Followed immediately with the funeral service, at 8:00 P.M. Cremation will be private.
