Jean Brown

Jean Navarre Brown, 97, died Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Powhatan Nursing Home, Falls Church, Virginia. Born July 23, 1919, in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of George R. and Lillian Stewart Navarre. She graduated Monroe High School, Monroe, Michigan, and earned her Bachelor of Education Degree from Trenton State College. She resided in Bound Brook for several years, moving to Oldwick in 1963, then Virginia in 2008. Jean began her career as a librarian at the Bound Brook Memorial Library, later becoming a teacher for the Clinton Township School District, retiring in 1996, after many years of service. She was a member of the New Jersey Education Association, American Association of University Women, and the League of Women Voters. She loved flowers and gardening. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband of forty-nine years, Robert P. Brown, who died in 1999. She is survived by her children, Margaret “Meg” (Gregory) Gray of Alexandria, Virginia, Marion (James) Brady of Chatham, Frederick Brown of Clinton; her brother, Roderick Navarre of Monroe, Michigan, and her beloved grandchildren, Stephen and Matthew Brady, and Robert and Andrew Gray. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 1, at the Lake Nelson Memorial Park Chapel, 606 South Randolphville Road, Piscataway. Friends will be received at the chapel 9:00 - 10:00 A.M., prior to the funeral.
