Harry Bohay peacefully passed away at the age of 86, on February 25, 2015, in Woodland Hills, California, while visiting his daughter, Heidi Bohay Spound and her family. Harry was born March 17, 1928, in South Bound Brook. Upon graduation from Bound Brook High School in 1946, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country for two years during World War II as a fireman aboard aircraft carrier Valley Forge (CV-45). After military service, Harry came back to South Bound Brook and married Arlene Fehr in 1955. They settled down at 48 Main Street, always surrounded by Harry’s large family. Father Charles, mother Ida, and brothers and sisters, Mary, Peter, Johnny, Stella, Sophie, and Paulie. In 1959, Harry and Arlene began to raise their own family when their first daughter, Heidi, was born, followed by Tammy in 1961. Although Harry was a long time employee of Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G), he had many other businesses including HARRY’S TV AND RADIO REPAIR, ARLENE’S BEAUTY SALON , THE FREEWAY INN , and what became the center of his Universe, HI-TAMS ICE CREAM . HI-TAMS was named for his two daughters, Heidi and Tammy, and opened its doors in 1972. He loved his customers and never let a child who couldn’t afford an ice-cream cone walk away empty handed. Harry loved people and his biggest passion was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a beloved brother, adored uncle, and a faithful friend. He was well known and loved by the citizens of South Bound Brook, and will be sadly missed. Predeceased by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Arlene, on January 5, 2014, he is survived by his daughter, Heidi Bohay Spound, her husband, Michael Spound, and their sons, Zachary, Jonah, and Gabriel, of Woodland Hills, his daughter, Tammy Bohay of Robbinsville; his sisters, Mary Olsen, Stella Sutton, and Sophie Mielnicki. Harry is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will begin 11:30 A.M. Saturday, March 7, at the funeral home, with V.R. Yurij Siwko, officiating. Interment with US Navy Military Honors will be at St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, South Bound Brook. Friends will be received at the funeral home 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to Eden Autism Services , 2 Merwick Road, Princeton, New Jersey 08540. Harry will be forever loved and missed. In honor of Uncle Harry, his niece, Rachael Lopa, will be opening Hi-Tams for the season, as usual. Rest in peace my darling. “I’ll be looking at the moon, but I’ll be seeing you.”
