Gretchen Facq

Gretchen E. Facq, 93, died Saturday, September 26, 2015, at the Arbor Glen Retirement Community in Bridgewater. Born June 9, 1922, in Buffalo, New York, she was the daughter of J. Grover and Edna McAdam Eichorn. She was a 1944 graduate of Cornell University, receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. She grew up in Upstate New York and Maine, and lived two years in Paris, where she fell in love and married. She settled in Bound Brook in 1962 and moved to Arbor Glen in 2013. Mrs. Facq was a “homemaker extraordinaire” who loved entertaining, good food and French cooking and culture. She was active in numerous clubs and charitable organizations, such as the Bound Brook Garden Club, Cercle Français and the Somerset County Environmental Center. She played cello in the Somerset Valley Orchestra past age ninety. She sculpted and painted and was thrilled to be invited to show her work for a month at Arbor Glen in 2014. She was a devoted naturalist and dedicated to healthful, natural foods. She loved her family, close friends, the outdoors, horseback riding, her garden and canoeing. Mrs. Facq was predeceased by her husband of sixty-four years, John Facq, in 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Miette Levine and husband Dan of Fanwood; her son, Chris Facq and wife Barbara Davis of Camden, Maine; her grandchildren, Leah Riehl and husband Chris of North Brunswick, David Levine of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Alex Facq of Camden, Maine; and great-grandchildren Felicity and Clementine Riehl. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 3, at Arbor Glen Retirement Community, 100 Monroe Street, Bridgewater. Friends will be received at the funeral home 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. Friday, October 2.
