Giesela Smith

Giesela H. Smith, 84, died in her sleep Sunday, November 27, 2016, at home, surrounded by her family. Born July 27, 1932, in Neptune, she was the daughter of Daniel R. and Käthe Langenberg Hermann. She was raised in Allenwood, moving to Somerset in 1947. She had attended Rutgers University and Somerset County College. Giesela was a homemaker with artistic tendencies and was dedicated to her family. She had driven school buses, taught art classes, and worked the family farm with her husband. She was an avid photographer and enjoyed horseback riding, the Jersey shore, gardening, and baking. She was an active member of the East Millstone United Methodist Church. Giesela was predeceased by her husband of forty-seven years, Warren Smith, who died July 30, 2002. She died on what would have been their sixty-first wedding anniversary. She is survived by her son, Daniel W. (Lynn) Smith of Ringoes; her daughters, Giesela R. Smith of Highlands, Heidi Noel Smith-Ash of Atlantic Highlands; her brother, US Army Col. Ulrich W. (Viann) Hermann, Ret., of Corpus Christi, Texas; her two beloved grandchildren, Matthew Daniel and Catherine Lynn Smith, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 3, at the East Millstone United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. Friends will be received at the funeral home 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday.
