Gerald Anthony Fasanella, Sr., 91, died peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerville. Born in Somerville, he was the son of Donato and Teresa Fasanella. He was a resident of Bound Brook before moving to South Bound Brook 56 years ago. Gerald was very active. He served on the South Bound Brook Borough Council for 10 years, was an honorary member of the South Bound Brook Fire Company, a member of the American Legion Post No. 12 in Somerville, a member of the Fire and Rescue Squad while employed at UCC, the South Bound Brook Senior Citizens, the Holy Name Society and an active communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church where he was named “Man of the Year” in 2015 for his service to the Parish. Gerald worked at Union Carbide as a quality control analyst for 44 years before retiring in 1990. Gerald was a US Army veteran, serving in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the national Defense Service Medal. Gerald leaves behind his devoted wife Patricia. He was predeceased by his sons, Steven and Michael, his grandson, Nicholas, his parents, his brothers Joseph, Daniel and Frank, and his sisters Mary Fasanella, Rose Straub, Carmela Sikora, and Doris Brindley. Gerald also leaves behind his son Keith and his wife, Linda of Somerset, David and his wife Lyn of Medford Lakes, Gerald Jr. and his wife Eileen of Upper Montclair; his grandchildren, Erin and her husband Christopher Tietjen, Gracelee, Kaleigh, Alexandra, Anthony, and Rebecca Fasanella; and his great grandson, Sawyer Jacob Tietjen. Gathering with the family and friends will be 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM, Thursday, at Our Lady Of Mercy Church in South Bound Brook. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bridgewater.
