Frank A. Castelli, 84 of Bound Brook, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 23 at Somerset Medical Center. Frank was born in 1929 in Bound Brook, NJ, a town that he called home for the next 80 years of his life. He is a 1947 graduate of Bound Brook High School and an alumnus of Rutgers University, where he earned three degrees including a BS in History in 1951 and MA in Education in 1952. Following his graduation from Rutgers, he spent four years in the Air Force stationed at a variety of locations, including Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He earned an honorable discharge in 1956. Frank began his teaching career at Manville High School, Manville, NJ, in 1957. Early in his career he taught English and History, but focused on the latter for most of his career. He will be best remembered by his students for his Social Studies classes where he inspired many to take an interest in current events and politics through the reading of Time and Life magazines, the New York Times and other daily papers and periodicals. He was coordinator of the History Department before his retirement in 1987. Frank was a communicant and Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph Church, Bound Brook and a member of the American Legion Post 63, Bound Brook. He enjoyed going to the movies, traveling, tending to his garden, listening to opera, Italian art and architecture, tending to his garden, doing daily crossword puzzles and discussing current events with family and friends. Frank was predeceased by his father, Biagio, and his mother, Antoinette (nee Mondrone). He is survived by siblings Christine Sepesi of Bound Brook, his twin brother Gregory Castelli of Raritan, Ann Devine of Seekonk, MA, and Blaise “Buzz” Castelli of Green Cove Springs, FL; as well as many nieces,nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave., Bound Brook, NJ 08805. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at St. Joseph Church, Mountain Ave., Bound Brook, NJ 08805. Internment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bridgewater, NJ.
