Francis Joseph Callahan, 81, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Princeton Medical Center at Plainsboro. Born in New York City, he lived in Belleville since 1964, moving to Hillsborough 5 months ago. He graduated from The Technical School of Aviation in New York City. He was employed as a mechanic for the New York Transit Authority in New York, retiring in 1992. After retirement he worked as a porter at Woodcliff Gardens in West NewYork, NJ until the age of 75. He was a volunteer with Pack 350, Cub Scouts in Belleville, was an active bowler, bowling in two leagues and was a family man. He was predeceased by his brother James Callahan and his grandson Adam. He is survived by 2 sons; James J. Callahan of Lansing, MI and John F. Callahan of Vernon, 2 daughters; Teresa Lowry of Hillsborough and Laura McTeague of Matawan, a sister; Linda Callahan of CT, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters. Visitation will be from 9:00 - 11:00 am on Friday, May 25, 2018 followed by services at 11:00 am at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook. Burial will follow at Bound Brook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer's research.
