Eugene ‘Gene’ Leonard Jr., beloved son and brother, passed away surrounded by family after a courageous battle on July 26, 2024.
A lifelong resident of New Jersey, he was born in Plainfield to Ludwena ‘Lou’ Leonard. He spent his early years growing up in Warren Township. He later moved to Bound Brook, where he graduated from Bound Brook High School. Gene spent the next 44 years living in South Bound Brook.
Being artistically inclined right from childhood, Gene worked as a nail polish formulator creating new shades for various well-known cosmetic companies. This allowed him to express himself creatively. He also enjoyed painting.
A devoted NY Mets and NY Giants fan, he cheered on his teams in good seasons and bad, never wavering in his support. His love of sports was only surpassed by his love of all kinds of music, his favorite being progressive rock. Gene enjoyed attending concerts and kept all his ticket stubs. He also had an extensive record collection. He could often be found exploring new music online.
Known as a ‘good guy,’ Gene will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his sister, Linda, and brother-in-law Mark Clark; his devoted cousins; and dear friends, some of which he knew for over 50 years.
Gene was predeceased by his devoted mother, Ludwena ‘Lou’ Leonard; his maternal grandparents, Michael and Mary Dobrucki; and his paternal grandparents, Martin and Christina Leonard.
To honor Gene’s memory, reminisce about a concert you attended together or listen to your favorite album while enjoying a gin and tonic.
