Mr. Edward J. Zujkowski, 89, died Thursday, November 27, 2014, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Manville, he was the son of John and Stella Zujkowski. He was a graduate of Bound Brook High School, Class of 1943. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy working his way up to Electricians Mate Second Class. He was a crewmember of the Submarine USS Runner (SS-476), which patrolled the waters around Honshu, Japan. His ship sank an enemy merchant ship and a destroyer, then went on to rescue American airmen shot down in a bombing raid. He was discharged in 1945, receiving the Submarine Combat Pin and three ribbons, the Asiatic-Pacific with one battle star, the American Theater, and the Victory Medal. He returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Felice. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and worked for Research Cottrell for thirty-six years as an Electrical Engineer, retiring in 1987. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Bound Brook, serving as an usher for many years. He served on the Bound Brook Recreation Commission for twenty-five years and coached Little League and Pop Warner. He was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion, Giles - Biondi Post No. 63, Bound Brook, and was this year’s Grand Marshall of the Bound Brook Memorial Day Ceremony. Mr. Zujkowski was predeceased by his sons, Edward and Joseph. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Felice of Bound Brook, his son, Alan, and his wife, Jeanne of Hillsborough, his grandson, Alan of Hillsborough, his brother, Marvin of Hackettstown, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will begin, 9:00 AM, Tuesday, December 2, at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, Bound Brook. Burial will follow at Bound Brook Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 3:00 - 7:00 P.M.
