Dr. Robert Jacob Alheim, 88, died Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born September 1, 1928, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Jacob and Luella Alheim. He graduated from Myers High School, Wilkes Barre, and Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania. He earned his PhD. in Organic Chemistry at Yale University. He was a resident of Middlesex since 1953. Dr. Alheim was employed for thirty-one years at American Cyanamid Company, Bound Brook, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, and the Presbyterian Church, Bound Brook. Although he was a man of science, the true love and passion of his life was his family. Dr. Alheim was predeceased by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Kathryn Macking Alheim, who died August 5, 2015, and his sister, Jean Love. He is survived by his daughters, Susan (Stephen) Greco of Middlesex, Carolyn (Dwight) Caines of Los Angeles, California; his beloved grandchildren, Michelle and Julia Greco, Andrew and Sam Caines; his niece, Terry Wendrychowicz and family, and his brother-in-law, Earl Love. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 3, at the Presbyterian Church, 409 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook. Cremation will be private.
