Doris Hughes

Doris Lahey Hughes, 94, died peacefully at her home on May 11, 2015. Born on April 23, 1921, to George F. Lahey and Emma Warren McIntosh. Mrs. Hughes was raised in Upper Montclair and had lived for many years in Bridgewater. Mrs. Hughes was employed by Somerset Pediatric Group in Somerville as a pediatric nurse for 17 years before retiring in 1989. She was a very active volunteer with several organizations including, the Green Knoll Rescue Squad, Raptor Trust, Bridgewater Regional Animal Shelter, and the Somerset County Humane Society. She was an avid swimmer and was a coach for the Somerville YMCA Competitive Swimming Team, and the at Glen Ridge Swim Club. Mrs. Hughes was predeceased by her beloved husband, Melvin J. Hughes. She is survived by her devoted children and their spouses; Scott and Fran Hughes, Barbara and Jim Hagan, Mel Hughes, Michael and Sandy Hughes, Fran and Kenneth Kalisch, Chris Hughes, Cathleen and Edward Malok, and Danny and Nancy Chen; also surviving are her 17 grand-children, 5 great grand-children, and her brother, George F. Lahey Jr. and his wife, Margaret. Funeral services were private. Memorial donations be made to the Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave, Nebraska City, NE 68410.
